The Largest Salt Desert in The World – Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia.
Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the largest salt desert in the world. Salar de Uyuni Altiplano of Bolivia is part of South America. The Altiplano is a plateau that was formed while raising the Andes mountains. Plateau include salt and fresh water lakes and salt flats and is surrounded by mountains.
Salar de Uyuni was formed as a result of changes between several prehistoric lakes. It is covered with several feet of salt crust, which is extraordinary flatness with altitude variations within one meter over the entire surface of the Salar. Shell serves as a source of salt and cover a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in lithium. It contains 50-70% of world reserves of lithium, which is in the process of being extracted.

There's an open pit diamond mine called the Mirny Mine in East Siberia, Russia. It's very deep. At over 1,700 ft deep, it's the 4th deepest mine in the world. It also has a diameter of over 3,900ft. This makes it the second largest excavated hole in the world.

The Surgeon, who operated his own Appendix
In 1961, Leonid Rogozov, 27, was the only surgeon in the Soviet Antarctic Expedition. During the expedition, he felt severe pain in the stomach and had a high fever.
Rogozov examined himself and discovered that his appendix was inflamed and could burst at any time. With a local anesthesia, he operated himself to remove the appendix. An engineer and a meteorologist assisted surgery.
700-year-old mummy found by chance by Chinese road workers
These incredible pictures show a 700-year-old mummy, which was discovered by chance - by road workers - in excellent condition in eastern China. The corpse of the high-ranking woman believed to be from the Ming Dynasty - the ruling power in China between 1368 and 1644 - was stumbled across by a team who were looking to expand a street.
And the mummy, which was found in the city of Taizhou, in the Jiangsu Province, along with two other wooden tombs, offers a fascinating insight into life as it was back then.

Madain Saleh is a pre-Islamic archaeological site located in the Al-Ula sector, within the Al Madinah Region of Saudi Arabia, approximately 400km north-west of Madinah. Formerly known as Hegra it is the largest conserved site of the civilization of the Nabataeans south of Petra in Jordan. The site features 131 massive rock cut tombs with decorated facades, many with inscribed Nabatean epigraphs, spread out over 13.4 km and dating from the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD.
